Look up name in server address book to verify they still exist

I have several discussion-type databases with user profiles. However, whenever someone leaves the company, someone has to manually (when it occurs to them) remove the user’s profile documents from the databases. Some of these are company-wide databases (20,000+ employees).

I don’t have control over the company-wide address book design, otherwise I could easily create a sorted view which contains everyone’s Notes name (and all variations–since org units, etc. change) and take each profile document and do a GetDocumentByKey and delete any profile documents whose creator no longer exists in the address book.

Currently the first column in the only “by Person” view in the address book has people listed by “LastName, FirstName”.

And it’s not always easy to programmatically figure out a person’s first and last name (e.g. “Mary Ann Wells”,
“Steven Robert Combes, Jr.”, “Etienne Van Der Meer”, “Jean Luc H. Degarnier”, etc.).

Seems like there should be a way to do this automatically, since Notes resolves addresses each time it sends an e-mail (even if I enter the person’s old Notes address (maiden name, old org unit, etc.) it resolves to their new Notes name when I press F9)…

My solution at this point would be to write a LotusScript with a NotesDatabase.Search, but that seems like it would be slow, and I’m certainly not the first person to have this situation.

Am I totally missing something easy here? Thanks.

The ($Users) view in the nab has all forms of the person’s name. It’s a standard view used by the mail router, so no nab design change needed.

Thanks!

Yes, the Namelookup function does exactly that!
