Log.nsf question

Does the log.nsf log/record session if the client is just open (and not actively doing something)? If one session shows x number of minutes of activity and another session(s) shows 0 minutes of activity but 3 reads, what does that mean?

I’m trying to figure out from the log.nsf for what period of start to end a user was active. The log shows the session starting from 8am and the last recorded session was 11pm (we know she didn’t work till 11pm!) - her supervisor is trying to track for what period of time she was active on notes (using that as one way to determine how many hours she worked in a day). Is there a better way in notes to track user activity?

Thanks for any input

Helen

Hi Helen,

in the log.nsf you have a view “Usage\ By User”. I think there you can get the information you want.

If the machine is on, and the client is running, I would expect to see an entry in the log for each time the client polled for new mail, equivelent to the “Check for new mail every x minutes” setting in the User Preferences.

You may be able to use activity logging to collect the information you are seeking. Check the Admin help for more information on setting it up. By enabling activity logging you can select the logging you want to record to the log.nsf.
