Local History

I have a query about the ‘Local History’ functionality. If I right-click on a design element in the Applications pane I have an option of Compare With\Local History…

I found this extremely useful a couple of days ago when I overwrote a CSS stylesheet with an updated version (which I thought at the time was only slightly different!) and screwed up the look and feel of my website. We use the TeamStudio tools, but the previous version checked out through CIAO was considerably older. compared with local history and was able to get the version last saved, which avoided a lot of painful double-checking.

Although this right-click menu option is available for all design elements, it does not seem to work for e.g. Forms.

Looking in the Help, it appears this is under Workbench and talks about files. There does not appear to be anything under Domino Designer to explain how it works in a Domino development environment.

Am I right in thinking it is Eclipse functionality, originally intende for text-based files (like CSS stylesheets), not the kind of design elements of Forms, Pages, Views etc that we have in Domino? It would be useful to have a quick reference list of what design elements it will work for (sorry, I know with a bit of investigation I could probably find out!)

If this is standard Eclipse functionality, is this a standard Eclipse right-click menu option not turned off for the design elements for which it is not relevant, or something that will be extended to Forms, Views etc for future releases?

Subject: correct, this does not work for “traditional” Domino elements like forms, views, pages, framesets, etc.

Hopefully this functionality will get expanded one day to these elements. I think the issue is that the file has to be text based. Domino design elements are not, unless they are exported as DXL. And, DXL is not 100% fidelity when exporting and importing, so, you might lose some information.
