When I try to index a local db, the indexing often does not complete. After I click the ‘Create Index’ button in the application properties window, I can see that index size increases if I check it periodically. However, for no apparent reason, the index then goes back to zero. I’ve tried this multiple times and have waited up to 10 hours for the index to complete.
I’ve found the same thing while trying to index at least a couple of other Notes db’s. It often takes multiple attempts before it’s successful. This seems to occur more frequently with Notes 8 than with Notes 6.5.
The db’s involved are all large - about 1 to 2 GB. I have Manager access with full rights in all the db’s.
If anyone has any ideas on this, please let me know. Thanks.
By checking the Notes log, I found that the indexing has been failing because of space constraints - messages include the following:
Full Text Error - not enough space on disk to build index
This is surprising since the db is about 1GB and indexing reportedly uses up to about 20 percent of this (200 MB). However, there’s still 2 GB of free space on the drive.
Subject: It really depends on your indexing options
If your database contains attachments and you also index the attachments the index could easily outgrow the db size. Also if you have no attachments, indexes can become as large as the db.
