Loading client after crash/termination

I have an ongoing problem I hope someone has seen and figured out how to repair. I am running XP SP1, Notes version 6.5.2. Whenever Notes gets terminated abnormally, I can not restart the client. The logo flashes briefly and never starts. There are no Notes processes running in the background. I run either killnotes, zapnotes, or nsd -kill and none find anything holding onto a dll. I just tried to unload Norton to see if it was holding onto something.

I’ve renamed my desktop6 and removed the cache files to force a rebuild. Nada. Nothing works. I just hate having to reboot the machine. I loved zapnotes and killnotes and the fact that 6 fixed the reboot problem most of the time. I’m a developer and can occasionally cause a crash on my system (gee, wonder how that happens).

However, since moving to the newest version, that’s not the case anymore. Also, the client crashes a little more often than I like - but hey, that’s software. Anyone seen this and found a workaround?

Go into your Taskmanager & kill the ntaskldr.exe process. Also nlnotes.exe if it happens to have left its core fragment running.In R5 kill the nhldaemon.exe (sp) process.

Hi Collin, thanks for the quick reply. I’m on Notes 6.5.2 and there are no “n” processes running in the background. that’s part of the problem. There is nothing to delete and that’s why I have to reboot. Most annoying.

There are many items that can prevent Notes from Restarting.

Where ZapNotes is installed there is a log file. This shows what is being killed, including the ~lck file within the data directory.

This is a list which contains both R5 & R6 components that may be running. There may be more R5, but the list is substantial.

You will also notice that there are entries for Blackberry software, as this is using the data area too, so Notes will not restart.

What I want to know is how to restart other applications than just Notes! There is a command line you can use, but god knows what it is
