Linux newbie: SysV

I am working my way through the Lotus Domino 6 for Linux. Although the Redbook is for RedHat 7.2 I am actually using RedHat 8. (More fool me, but where does a Linux newbie get redhat 7.2 these days?).

I have got to page 144 and am trying to manage those nasty daemons, but cannot find the SysV Init Editor. Is not under 'Start Application → System → SysV Init Editor.

Where do I find SysV Init Editor in Redhat 8?

Many thanks.

I will have to check my Red Hat 8.0 for that. I can’t recall it from memory.

7.2 Redhat? I can let you down the ISO image from my web server. I know people have had problems which has prevented them from using that version and some people have gotten past the problems and it works fine.

I have the redbook open to that page and I am not seeing where it mentions SysV Init Editor. I can offer some help on what you need to do (if you want domino to be a service or run as s daemon). I am not following though the SysV Init editor.

ok I see where you are at. I can help you through this without having to use the SysV Init editor.

I made domino as a service by putting the service script in the /etc/rc.d/init.d directory then make a symbolic link to /etc/rc3.d since I run my server at a run level of 3.

Mmm,

In RedHat you could beter use chkconfig.

Please check: man chkconfig

Greetz!

Thanks for your replies.

I think I’ve managed to use Service Configuration program.

As for SysV Init Editor;

I did find references to SysV-Init Editor on my RH8.0 install but only the following file:

/usr/share/mimelnk/text/SysV-Init Editor logfile

and I could not find out where the SysV-Init Editor actually is. Perhaps it is no longer supplied with Redhat 8.0. Shame as it looks like quite a neat tool.

Dear AJP Film IT,

the Sys V Editor is part of a KDE package, probably KDE Admin so you should check for KDE packages. As Red Hat does not like KDE by default it is not installed (but should be available).

Cheers
