Is it possible to purchase LN8 client and install the LN v 6.5?Is it not illegal or outside the existing terms and conditions of IBM licensing?

Of course you should check with an IBM representative for the official statement, but as far as I know (and as I’ve seen many organizations practice), you buy a license for a Notes user, not for a particular version. Your Notes user is entitled to run the current version, or any previous version of the client under that license.

To be on safer side it’s better to ring up the IBM support and verify with them. Even if it’s legal, IBM may not like to support you on the issues on v6.5, when they have fixed most them in their latest version and sold to you.

Well, it’s almost 1 1/2 years to the end of service for 6.5, so that shouldn’t be an immediate issue.
Not sure about IBM’s downgrading policy, though.
