LDAP names in type-ahead mail addressing

We have 200 Notes users, 2000 staff and 20,000 students. Our domino directory naturally only contains details for the 200 Notes users. All the others are in the corporate OpenLDAP directory.

A (the?) major perceived block to getting more of our 200 Notes users using Notes Mail (it is mainly deployed for calendaring and most users only use that and POP using Outlook/Mozilla/Eudora into the corporate Sendmail machine for their mail) is the present inability easily to address mail using type-ahead that returns people not only in the Domino Directory but also in the corporate LDAP directory.

Is this possible? I thought that by setting up directory assistance pointing to the corporate LDAP server it would do it, but it appear not.

I am now thinking I have to do some kind of scheduled process to pull all the names and e-mail addresses from the LDAP server once a day or whatever and then some kind of directory catalog to merge this ldap data with the main Domino Directory users and then get Notes mail users to use the catalog for their type-ahead addressing. Does this make any sense? Can someone provide a quick road map of what steps I need to go through if this is at all possible?

Cheers,

Jock Coats

Nobody know? Is there another source of information for when the Domino manuals/help files do not tell you the answer?

We just encounter the same need at a University.in Belgium. Third parties products exist for synchronizing passwords, but it seems that keeping the directory up to date ( additions AND suppression of LDAP users and groups to be reflected into additions and suppresions of users and groups documents in the Domino Directory) still requires own programming.
