Layers - Am I missing something here?

I am really confused by layers. This seams to be a function that doesn’t work. I get the concept and understand the purpose. However, I have two layers on my notes form (for the web) that display buttons. However, if I put them where I want them, they dispaly somewhere else. It’s a guessing game to decide where to place them to get the in the correct place on the form.

Further to this, I added a picture in a layer, and then placed another layer over it and wanted to make it a transparent grey with black text (provided by a field on the layer). It doesn’t seem to matter what zindex I use, nether the picture nor the text layer display, (but my buttons do)- Anyone have experience of making this function work?

Subject: Layers - Am I missing something here?

hi Chris,

What are the top/left properties (values and units) of the layer, and where is it actually appearing - i.e. what are the actual top/left measurements (from the container’s edges)? I have not seen cases where it’s completely misplaced. I have seen cases where it appears misplaced in relation to other form content, but this is due to differences in the way the form is shown in Notes and Browser - the form content may be layed out slightly differently in browser, making the layer appear out of place, but is actually placed correctly with respect to the container. Is it possible this is the problem?

As for the other issue, you say the top layer has a transparent gray background. I don’t believe this is possible - either the layer has no background color and is transparent, or it has a background color and is not transparent. If you’ve set the background color on the top layer, it will not be transparent and you won’t see any content behind it.
