Launching NDL attachments

We recently moved to a hosted Exchange solution for mail but continue to run major applications on Domino. I have successfully coded for applications generating e-mails with doclinks to be sent out with an attached NDL file in lieu of the standard doclink.

When trying to launch the attachment from Outlook when Lotus Notes is not running, the attachment launches Lotus Notes(even prompting for password when needed), and goes right to the document as it should. My issue is that when a user tries to launch the attachment when Lotus is already running, they get the following error: “An error was encounter while opening a window”.

The only thing that I have found is that for users that have Lotus Notes, as well as the Admin and Designer clients installed, launching the attachment works perfectly regardless of whether Notes is running or not.

Any direction on this would be most appreciated.

Solution - Clean Registry Entries

Lotus recommends uninstalling Lotus Notes, cleaning the registry of all Notes entries, and re-installing Notes. My issue was that one of the registry keys for NOTES.EXE was pointing to C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\Notes.exe instead of C:\Lotus\Notes\Notes.exe.
