JVM Version Required for Stand-Alone Java App using Notes 7.0.2?

I’m upgrading a working stand-alone Java application that uses Domino Java classes (Notes.jar) from Notes 6.5.5 to Notes 7.0.1. I changed the CLASSPATH to the new Notes.jar location (NOTES_HOME\jvm\lib\ext\Notes.jar) and the app comes up OK, works for a while, but then crashes (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION, nnotes.dll).

This happens when I use Sun’s standard Java version 1.5.0_05.

However, I’m able to fix the problem by using the JVM version 1.4.2 that comes bundled with Notes 7.0.2 (NOTES_HOME\jvm\bin).

Does anybody know if JRE 1.4.2 is required to use Domino Java objects (via Notes.jar) from ND 7.0.2??? Why did the older 6.5.5 work fine under JRE 1.5.0? Can we use any version of JRE 1.4.2, or must it be the version that comes bundled with Notes 7.0.2?

THANKS

Hi,

Not all JVMs are created equal. Only use the specific JRE for each DOMINO version and save yourself some problems. BTW, the bundled JRE is an IBM version, not a SUN version.
