I just sent an email and my xserver crashed. I have sent several emails without a problem so it seems intermittent.
I will keep posted if it happens again.

I have filed a bug report to the Ubuntu Developers.
I suspect this is a Lotus issue though as it did not occur before install Lotus Notes.
