Junk Mail

If you are receiving spam and place it in you junk mail box, does it automatically block it from the sender from now on and put it in the junk mail box, or do you have to go to Tools - Block Mail from Sender in order to do that?

Moving to junk does not block the sender.

Blocking the sender rarely does any good, as spammers rarely use the same sending address twice.

Either of these steps might make you feel good for a moment, but they won’t make much of a dent in the flow of spam.

You will need to look at installing some form of SPAM filtering on your email. There are several products out there that will do this. I personally use SpamJam and it has worked well for me. In addition I am using a couple of Black List Filters in the Server Configuration Document (Inbound SMTP Controls) :

bl.spamcop.net

sbl.spamhaus.org

By using this setup I have almost no SPAM that gets through to my inbox, and SpamJam reports all mail that it rejects and you can restore a blocked email in the case of a False Positive.

Another solution that I know works is to setup Spam Assassin in front of Domino and have it determine the degree of Spam and then pass it through. There is a product on OpenNTF that allows for communication between Domino and SA. I have not tried this configuration but am looking seriously at it for one of my clients.
