Julie Kadeshevich: Three OOO issues

Calling OOO expert Julie Kadashevich! Here are my tales of minor annoyances. All users are 8.5/8.51, servers are 8.5FP1 with OO Service enabled.

First question, is there some way to verify the the OO Service is running on a server using the Admin client?

Second, I have a user with 8.51 client who did not see the specify hours option in OOO profile form. I tried deleting the OOO agent and refreshing the design, no change. I updated the form in Designer to set the default value for TaskType to “2” and that does cause the hours checkbox to appear!

Third, I have another user where they can properly enable and disable the OOO agent in the Notes 8.5 client. BUT in the iNotes client it appears that they can enable and disable it even though in fact it is not ever enabled in Notes. The web OOO profile document also appears with different settings than the Notes version. It seems to be editing some sort of phantom OOO data in the web client that does not actually get recognized by the Notes side of the equation. I tried deleting the OOO agent and refreshing the design in this case as well, no change.

Thank you for any help that you provide.

Yes. On the Files tab, there is column which reflects the status of OO Service. Note that it only reflects the status of the service (not the agent). You need to scroll to the right to see that column,

Second, I have a user with 8.51 client who did not see the specify hours option in OOO profile form. I tried deleting the OOO agent and refreshing the design, no change. I updated the form in Designer to set the default value for TaskType to “2” and that does cause the hours checkbox to appear!

The UI defaults to the agent, when it cannot read the user’s configuration to see that the user was configured as using service. By forcing the internal setting you did not solve the underlying problem. It will reoccur next time. The configuraiton is read from the home mail server of the owner of the mail database. Make sure that the location document points to the home server, and that the home server is up and running. This is especially important the first time you try to enable OOO after the user is configured to use the service. So don’t do it disconnected the first time you enable OOO, for example. After that it can cope better when it cannot reach the home mail server.

Third, I have another user where they can properly enable and disable the OOO agent in the Notes 8.5 client. BUT in the iNotes client it appears that they can enable and disable it even though in fact it is not ever enabled in Notes. You are absolutely right. We recently discovered an issue in iNotes that stored the wrong value in a field and caused Notes Client to be out of phase with iNotes.

The SPR number is OIHZ7R3KFK, and you can get a hot fix for this problem from support if you reference this spr. The fix will also appear in 8.5.1FP3 (which is not out yet).

There is a tech note # 1425342 that describes the problem in detail.

Thank you for any help that you provide.

Subject: Just a bit more information please

Thank you! You are the best, thanx for the quick and thorough responses. I need a little more clarification on each however.

I do see the Out of Office column when looking at the Mail files, the column is either blank or Yes. Are you saying that Yes in that column means the server has Out of Office Service enabled? What would be in that column if the user had OOO enabled but the server was NOT running the Service? I am trying to verify that the server is actually running the OOO Service, it sound like if no one on a particular server has their OOO enabled there is no way to check this.

I can guarantee that both the server was specified in the location document and running for the OOO config that did not have the Specify hours option showing. After changing the default value for the TaskType field to “2” several days ago the option is still available now, even though the design refresh removed that default value from that field that night. Maybe we just chalk that one up to “one of those things.”

Is the hot fix for the iNotes being out of Phase with the Notes Client a template, client or server fix?

Thank you again for all the help.

You can issue a command from the server console

tell router o

which will show a list of all people who have OO service enabled.

If the user has an agent enabled the OOO column will be blank. You can see all enabled agents, including OOO, if you say at server console

tell amgr sched

The tech note explains this in more details, but the hot fix is fixing the wrong data stored in the user database (created with the version of iNotes that had a bug).

Subject: Thank you again

Thanx for the quick responses again. We have opened a PMR for the iNotes fix, according to the SPR its another TaskType field problem. That field needs to get its act together! ;-}
