I’m looking to modify a Domino application and am interested in whether JSP tag libraries, and specifically, the Domino custom JSP tag libraries, might provide a solution.
The Domino application currently functions as follows:
1.) A web user clicks a web link in a Domino db which runs a Java agent.
2.) The Java agent creates an input data stream through various view lookups.
3.) The Java agent uses the input stream to generate a PDF file by referencing Java classes of third party software (Antenna House).
4.) The Java agent attaches the PDF to a new document in a second Domino database and displays this document on the web.
The intent is to move the PDF generation outside of the Domino application. However, from a user perspective nothing would change. The user would still click a link on a web page to start the PDF generation process and then see another page that displays a new document with a PDF attached.
I thought this might be accomplished as follows:
A.) A web user clicks a web link in a Domino db which runs a Java agent (same as above).
B.) The Java agent creates an input stream through various view lookups (same as above).
C.) The Java agent uses the JavaRuntime class to run a Java application. The input stream is passed from the agent to the application.
D.) The Java application generates a PDF file by referencing Java classes of third party software (Antenna House).
E.) The Java application invokes Domino custom JSP tag libraries to attach the PDF to a new document (in a Rich Text field) in a second Domino database and displays this document on the web.
I have the following questions:

In Step E, it’s not apparent how the Java application might invoke the Domino custom JSP tag libraries.

In Step E, it’s not apparent how the document with the PDF might be displayed on the web so that it follows the web page on which the user first clicks a link.

Would RAD be recommended over Websphere to make the required design changes in moving the PDF generation outside of Domino?
Another design consideration is that sometime in the future, our customer might be interested in having the PDF generation also originating from another application other than Domino, possibly through a web service. The primary intent at this time though is to move the PDF generation outside of Domino.
