Java vs lotussccript agents

are there any bells and whistles to look for before changing the lotusscript agents to Java agents?

AFAIK, you just need to be aware that you can’t do anything that uses the Notes UI. There are no Notes UI classes for java. Other than that, everything you did is lotusscript can be done in java.

Well, my $0.02 since you are asking…

(1) Unless you are being given a directive to do so, don’t simply use Java just because it’s there. LotusScript can do most everything a typical Notes/Domino app would require. If you need functionality specific to the Java APIs, then go for it.

(2) Don’t code your Java in a linear format as you would in script. Java is true OO, so take advantage of that, learn how to do it correctly and code it like a Java developer.

(3) Java in Notes does not handle garbage collection of Notes wrappered objects automatically. In script you rarely have to worry about this. So do a search in this forum for the “recycle” method and use it wisely or you could cause a server crash.

Best wishes!

Java agents won’t run on the Macintosh Notes client, not even in the latest (as I write this) 7.0.2 beta.
