Java Runtime Environment Question

I ordinarily use Internet Explorer (6.02) to access a Domino application I’m developing as this is what my customers most commonly use. However, I sometimes use Mozilla FoxFire instead for its debugging capabilities. When opening the application in FoxFire, I’ve found that the navigator is blank except for a message which indicates that a plug-in for the JRE 1.4.2 is required. I’m wondering whether installing this plug-in might have an adverse impact upon either Domino or Internet Explorer.

My Notes is currently using JRE 1.3.1 as shown below:

C:\notes\jvm\bin>java -version

java version “1.3.1”

Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1)

Classic VM (build 1.3.1, J2RE 1.3.1 IBM Windows 32 build cn131-20030329 (JIT enabled: jitc))

JRE 1.4.1_01 is available through IBM’s intranet. I’d appreciate any recommendations on whether to proceed with installing this.

Thanks.

Correction to my original post …

I indicated that JRE 1.4.1_01 is available, but meant JRE 1.4.2_01.

Thanks.

The Notes client uses its own JRE, independent of those installed elsewhere. Installing the JRE for Firefox should have no adverse impact on your Notes client.dgg
