I would like to have a Java app running on a BlackBerry invoke a Domino web agent. The issue here is I want the user to authenticate as I want to personalize the (sensitive) data that is being returned.
Obviously I don’t want the password appearing in a query string. Is there a way to embed the user’s credentials in my HTTP connection call?
I read that there is an “Authorization” HTTP header where you can supply the user name and password (encoded Base64). However, the post I was reading wasn’t referring specifically to Domino. Does anyone know if Domino recognizes this header?
Even encoding isn’t that secure however… Maybe a web service?
Hi Eric, you can include the username/password in the HTTP header. For security you need to use HTTPS since it would be only base64 encoded. On J2SE you can use Apache’s commons httpclient that does everything for you. I’m not sure if the lib would run on J2ME. Check here: Apache HttpComponents – Apache HttpComponents
