Java Agent to reset notes password - How?

We have bee trying to write a Java Agent in Eclipse (WSAD 5), to reset a notes password. Keep in mind that I am completely new to Notes development, but I have already written some code to initiate a session and access the server, and then I can do things like build a message body and subject line and send it over email to a user.

I have also been playing around with “changeHTTPPassword”, but I keep getting the following error:

NotesException: Notes error: There is no certificate in the Address Book.

Is this even the correct method call to reset a password? I can’t seem to find anything else in the documentation for the Java API…

My understanding is that notes can only do ID recovery, where the sys admin obtains the “recovery password” for the user to reset their own password on their client. If this is the case, how would I do it programmatically using the Notes API?

Any input is appreciated…

Once you’ve set up a session and retrieved the proper NAB document…

doc.replaceItemValue(“HTTPPassword”, session.hashPassword(Password));

// To force a change at next signon…

doc.replaceItemValue(“HTTPPasswordForceChange”, “1”);

doc.save();

To really make sense of writing Notes code in WSAD, take the time up front to research and get comfortable with the “Two Headed Beast” method from Bob Balaban. It allows you to debug in WSAD via a CORBA connection and then simply import your class into Notes when it’s ready.
