It's 2010 - why can't I multitask in the Notes client?

I would like to work in database A while refreshing a very large view in database B. Why can’t I accomplish this at this point in time?

When my Designer client crashes, which it does 15 times a day because it’s terrible, why does it crash my admin client along with my notes client? Can’t we split these processes up?

I know these are snotty, sarcastic questions, but I’m nearly at my breaking point here.

Subject: agreed

The 8.5.1 designer client is a mess. I know it’s not helpful being negative. I’ve worked with Notes designer since 1994, though, and I’m in the designer client about 14 hours a day, 6 days a week, I spend my life in it. I’m way less productive now though with all the basic stuff with the new designer client.

Subject: I understand as well

I do know that Lotus is aware of this and has been working on issues such as this for quite some time. There is an older Technote that discusses an issue similar to this (which I have included a link to below), but I was unable to find any recent documentation on it.

Title: Cannot Work in Domino Admin/Designer Client When Notes Client Is Busy Doing Another Task

8.5.2 is due out for Q3 of this year - I hope the changes in it prove to be beneficial to you all!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Subject: so, here’s what I do

I can’t stand 8.5 DDE either, so I do everything in 8.0 Designer, and only at the very end, I open 8.5 DDE and recompile libraries, resave other elements etc. Maybe I’m lucky that I’m not using pieces that are brand new in 8.5 - are there many?

Sarcastic question? Maybe.

But, some VERY good points and ideas.

They certainly need to make the new designer work–it is a mess right now.

Aside from that, yes, they need to let these tasks work more independently so a hiccup in one doesn’t cause pneumonia in another.
