Issue with using a signature with 8.5 mail template

I upgraded to the new 8.5 mail template. I have a mail signature that has been working on previous releases. It still works fine in 8.5, but does not get inserted for 8.0 and older workstations. I need to use my mail file on multiple versions. Is there a workaround to using a mail signature across all versions of Notes if you use the 8.5 template?
