Is view by browser only way to refresh simultaneous view cocurrently?

Can you explain what you mean here? Also, for most purposes, letting domino build the view is a bad idea anyway. Build your own dhtml views and handle page navigation yourself (or leave it out altogether and show every document on one page). You can greatly enhance the quality of the displayed view.

In client, I experienced of notes client being locked the moment one view is being refreshed. The only time it does not lock if I close the database, make it default view, close and open that database. Problem is that it sometime do not refresh, and the moment I click the refresh button or press F9, notes client get lock again. I don’t know any way to let notes do the refresh in background.

Another problem is that I want several views in same database to be refreshed, and it seems open in new window will also mean client get locked for almost half an hour first.

Any good suggestion?

What are your settings in the view for Refreshing the index (the twirly hat tab). Depending on the size of your views and the usage, the setting here probably should be something other than the default. I suggest trying the other options to see what works best for your needs as far as update frequency.

It is automatic, but the problem is that I keep getting view is being refreshed. So, that is why I was thinking of viewing via browser. Seems the one that do not refresh often is manually, but the problem is that when new document is created, i have to go to designer and change it to automatic. Otherwise, pressing F9, will lock by client and designer.

What do you mean by this statement:

Seems the one that do not refresh often is manually, but the problem is that when new document is created, i have to go to designer and change it to automatic. Otherwise, pressing F9, will lock by client and designer.

The view index setting should be in the view properties dialog box, and nothing to do with the document.

This is from the help and is useful in determining which index option to use:

Refresh time options

To determine when to refresh an individual view, select a “Refresh index” option from the Advanced tab of the View Properties box.

Auto, after first use

Updates the view every time a user opens a view after the first time.

Automatic

Updates the view whether or not users ever open the database. With this option, views open more quickly.

Manual

Relies on the user to refresh the view. This option is useful for large databases that don’t need to stay uptodate. With this option, views open very quickly. Users just press F9 to refresh the view.

Auto, at most every n hours

Controls how frequently the view index updates. Choose this option for large databases that change fairly often. The view index updates automatically, but no more frequently than the specified interval. When a user opens a database in which changes have been made since the last indexing, the refresh icon appears, and the user can press F9 to refresh the view manually.

If the document-selection formula is time based, refresh the index as often as new documents are added. For example, if the view selects documents once a day, select Auto, at most once every 24 hours, to refresh the view index once daily.

I change the view refresh property to “manual”, and the view don’t get refresh automatically, which is what I wanted. but the problem is that , it somehow did not display the view index as per last view index refresh. So, I have to go back to designer and change it to other selection like automatic. What I want is a view index that will not change that often, but at the same time will displayed as per last view index refreshed. My database is huge and document don’t get changed very often, but I like the view to be updated without locking notes, which will happen if I press F9. The only time it will update without locking notes is if I open database, and the view is the defaulted database.

Did you look at the other options for updating the view index? All the options are listed in my last post. There is one there other than manual that will do what you need.
