Is there such a thing as a partial server upgrade

I’m currently running Domino 6.5. I want to take advantage of Blackberry’s connectivity to Sametime but they require a Sametime install of at least 7.2 (I think). I think I have to run Domino 7 to use Sametime 7.x

I am just a small fry in a global company that will not be upgrading to 7 or 8 anytime soon. Is it possible to upgrade the server to 7 or 8 without affecting our presence in the global structure?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thx.

You can easily get away with upgrading a server to 7 and leaving the rest on 6.x. 6 and 7 servers tend to play nicely with one another. I can name several extremely large global companies that run a mixed environment of 6.x and 7.x servers, and have done so for years.

8 probably plays nicely too, but I just don’t personally know anyone doing that right now.

However the Lotus Notes administrator(s) will be able to see what version servers are running, so you may wish to seek their blessing before upgrading. They tend to get really grumpy when surprises are sprung on them.
