Is there any mail notification in this forum?

Hi,

Is there any mail notification in this forum? At least for any responses to “My Posts”?

I could not find out this feature here. But i feel it will be very useful and helpful.

Subject: RSS feeds

Hello Sriram,

We currently do not have email notifications in our forums. We may add this feature again in the future. Meanwhile, have you explored using our RSS feeds?

For each forum, there are 2: one for all posts and one for main topics only.

Lotus Notes/Domino 8.5 Forum All posts: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd85forum.nsf/forumfeed.rss

Lotus Notes/Domino 8.5 Forum Main topics only: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd85forum.nsf/forumfeedmain.rss

Subject: RE: RSS Feeds

Steve

Thanks for the info. I have used the RSS myself, and find it less udeful than the “Show all my posts/main topics” views. At least with the later option, I can follow up on any post’s I’ve made to see if someone else has done the same…which is what I did here.

I see in the XPages forums, there will be an RSS option per main topic. This will be very useful. Not as convienent as an email alert, but effectively a watch/follow option. This will allow my to create feeds on only the topics I’m interested on - very nice.

One more feedback/option: In line spell checking! My typing is getting terrible, and I need all the help I can get :)!

Subject: Good tip, Matt!

Matt,

Good tip about the “Show all my posts/main topics” view! Taking advantage of the various views provided within the forums and exploring what they show can be even more powerful than receiving a ton of email.

As for the the RSS feed for each thread, we do hope these will be another useful option.

Because many have requested email alerts, we have added that to the list of requirements we are looking into for a future enhancement. Others too have requested a feature like “Watch this thread,” so we are also considering something like that.

About in-line spell checking via the Web browser: This too may be available in a future version of the XPages-based forums! Stay tuned!

Thanks for your feedback!

Regards,

Steven

Subject: Tried RSS but…

Hello Steve,Thanks for your response. I’ve tried using RSS feeds and i found it to be less useful. Had a look at the new forum on xPages, it looks cool.

RSS feeds for all my main topics, like that would be interesting. Or something like “Follow discussion” in LinkedIn would be helpful. Because i typically look at the first 1 or 2 pages of the forum and there is a good chance that i miss any responses to my post. This post also found to be in the fourth page, which i don’t think will be visiting it again (unless i’m conscious to see it).

I know it’ll be heavy to send mail notifications to such a huge number of participants, but have to do something to make this forum more useful and easy to use.

Thanks.

Subject: See Matt’s tip - check out the other views!

Sriram,

Yes, I agree, RSS feeds are not a panacea either. The additional feeds in the XPages-based design will hopefully provide additional options that may be helpful to some.

As Matt pointed out in another response in this thread, using the different views may be helpful too. If you haven’t already, take a minute to explore these (at the top of the topic list when viewing the forum in a Web browser). For example, the “Date (Flat)” allows you to see all of the latest posts, even new responses that are not readily apparent when using the default “Date (threaded)” view.

We are considering providing a threaded view (maybe even changing the default) to sort based on the date of the most recent response, not just the date of the main topic. That will help bubble up to, or near, the top threads with active conversations. This is typical in many forums today, especially PHP-style forums.

We appreciate your comments. These will help us to make our forums more useful and easier to use.

Regards,

Steven

Subject: As well as a wtch or follow

I’ve spent more hours than I want to admit looking for that setting as well as how to watch or follow other’s posts for future replies.

Seems a rather trivial feature in forums anymore.

Subject: Thank you for the feedback

We have recently begun working on an updated design for our developerWorks Lotus forums, especially improving the Web browser interface using Domino 8.5.x XPages design elements.

If you would like to see a trial forum demonstrating this design, please go to http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/xpagesforumtrial.nsf. Feel free to post comments in that forum, or if you have specific feedback, please send email to dwlotus@us.ibm.com.

Thank you,

Steven Frank
