Is there a way to keep Personal Groups from expanding?

Hello all,

Is there a way to prevent groups created in the Personal Names and Address Book from expanding once they are sent (or you after you hit ‘F9’)?? Sometimes our users send out emails to these groups and they don’t want everyone in that group to be able to see everyone else’s email address. They also do NOT want to put the group in the ‘bcc:’ field, because they want their customers to know that the email is being sent to the group, and not just to them. I saw a posting about a Notes.ini entry called ‘ExpandPersonalGroups’ that I put in my Notes.ini and set to ‘0’, but it did not seem to have an impact. Is there a way to control this group expansion?

A possible workaround, if the same group also resides on the server, append the domain name after the group. i.e. john doe/Acme @ AcmeCorp. This will tell the client that you intend to have the server resolve the address, so don’t check it.

If you need to use the local group then you are pretty much out of luck since the local group would have to be resolved in order to allow for responses.

Subject: ExpandPersonalGroups is field you can add to the Memo/Reply forms

Notes looks for the field ExpandPersonalGroups in each message sent. You can use the Domino Designer to add the field to the hidden area at the top of the Memo, Reply (possibly others) forms in your mail file, with a default value of “0”. If you want to make the change domain-wide, make the change in the mail template instead and let the Design task finish the job.

If you want to get fancy, add it as a checkbox in the memo form next to the High Importance/Return Receipt/Sign/Encrypt options and have it as a selectable option for the user.

Hmmm - if it’s not already in there, this is something we should add to the OpenNTF mail template…

I suspected you might have - it’s such an obviously useful option :slight_smile:

I’m gonna have to try harder to think of something else to add to make your life difficult ;->
