It has been horrible for me. I used to keep 7.0.2 running for weeks without ever having to close it down. XP would usually bog down before Notes. After upgrading it to 8.0.1 standard, it crashes 3 times a day. Is that everybody’s experience ?
Subject: stable here. (as long as I am not using designer for many days as you descripe your 7.0.x)
Subject: it crashes
not 3x a day, but it crashes. on some clients, they can’t get back in after a crash, so I run the basic client instead. I was unaware until recently that, when you install the eclipse client, you also get the basic client. just run nlnotes.exe instead of notes.exe. I always thought nlnotes stood for “no logo notes.”
Subject: Is Notes client 8.0.1 stable for you ?
I haven’t had a very good experience either…I can’t say it crashes that much for me, but sometimes a simple click to the next email, for example, will take minutes. I’ll have to ctrl+break several times before it stops and then it will be fine until the next time. That’s been my biggest complaint is that it just seems to get “lost” doing what it’s supposed to be doing at times and won’t recover.
Not a big fan at this point…
Subject: 8.0.1 is a pig
We refused to install the full (eclipse) client due to the resource requirements. What was Lotus thinking? I thought it was Microsoft’s job to make their users upgrade hardware just to run new software. I have 1.5gb of ram, and I gave up and now run in basic mode, and all my clients have been upgraded to basic mode only. I’m hoping 8.5 is less of a resource pig. If not we will probably re-evaluate our entire notes infrastructure.
Subject: Arrrghhh
Not sure if I should be happy (I am not the only one) or sad (there is no way I can roll that out to users)
Subject: it depends on the mood
at least it seems to me;-)
when it is running the performance is not bad (2g-duo-processor with 4gb ram). but 2-4 times a week it’s crashing too.
what’s really bad is the performace of the integraded web browser. this takes sometmes minutes! but without the integraded brwoser some widgets won’t work…
let’s hope for 8.02 or 8.5
Subject: It works fine
I am using 8.0.1 standard on a laptop which has 1GB of RAM and it works fine without any issue. Tried with version 8.0.2 beta on an identical machine and found it to be very good.
Subject: Crashes on XP and Vista
Our application never, but never crashed with 7.5.With 8.0.1 it crashes 0 to 5 times a day, and most of the time the clients have to reboot.
It crashes on XP and Vista. The crash occurs while saving a document during a script. But the error occurs before or after an inputbox, and not systematically and depends of the machine, some have more or less crashes.
The error window starts always with the same message: JVM terminated.Exit code=1…
I did not knew there was the nlnotes.exe. I’ll give it a try.
Subject: Works fine for me (after it finally loads).
No crashes here.
Win XP SP2, 2 GB RAM.
Subject: 8.0.1 crashing
Pierre, mine was also pretty bad until I installed more memory in my T60 - I only had 1G, now I have 3G - seems a lot better, it hasn’t crashed or frozen on me since. HTH.
Subject: It’s worst in Citrix PS 4.5
We’ve published Notes 8.01 in our Citrix environment and it was not a good experience.
Our test users were complaining that it took too long to launch and I often get a crash.
We’ve decided to keep Notes 7.02 for now.
Subject: Very stable here
We have a pilot group here with a couple of hiccup but nothing like what you are describing. The eclipse based client does need more resources. We are recommending 2gig of memory. You will notice a big difference. As far as your crashes I would look for “conflicting” software maybe other java based programs running.
On a side note their a some significant performance gains being reported for the 8.0.2 update which is the version we are rolling out to our staff.
