I’m not picking on you personally at all, so please don’t be offended. It’s just that I can’t believe how many questions I answer in this forum, that take 5 seconds to look up in the help DB. Just full text the Lotus Domino Administrator help DB, and search for whatever terms you want, like “rename and group”, and it’s amazing how much time you’ll save looking for answers.
REFERENCE
Rename group
You can rename a group using the Administration Process by performing a Rename Group action from the Domino Administrator. The following flowchart shows the sequence of Administration Process requests that occur when you do this. (Boxes indicate requests). The timing shown for each request is the default, which you can customize through the Server Tasks - Administration Process tab on the Server document.
Rename group in Domino Directory
Triggered by: Choosing Actions - Rename group from the Domino Administrator or by choosing Groups - Edit from the tools pane.
Carried out on: The administration server for the Domino Directory.
Carried out: According to the “Interval” setting for the Administration Process in the Server document.
Result: Updates the group’s name in the Domino Directory except in Person documents.
Rename group in Person documents
Triggered by: Completion of the “Rename group in Domino Directory” request.
Carried out on: The administration server for the Domino Directory.
Carried out: According to the “Execute once a day requests at” setting for the Administration Process in the Server document.
Result: Updates the name in Domino Directory Person documents.
Rename group in Access Control List
Triggered by: Completion of the “Rename group in Domino Directory” request.
Carried out on: Each server in the domain.
Carried out: According to the “Interval” setting for the Administration Process in the Server document.
Result: Each server in the domain updates the group’s name in ACLs of databases for which it is an administration server.
Rename group in Reader / Author Fields
Triggered by: Completion of the “Rename in Person documents” request on the administration server for the Domino Directory.
Carried out on: Each server in the domain.
Carried out: According to the “Delayed Request” settings for the Administration Process in the Server document.
Result: Each server in the domain updates the group’s name in the Reader / Author fields of databases for which it is an administration server and that have the advanced ACL option “Modify all Reader / Author fields” selected.

Feedback on Help or Product Usability?
Subject: RE: Is it easier to post here than look in the help?
Hellothank you for your answer.
If I asked the question, that is why I saw in the forum that there was problems to rename a group ( rename the group in the LCA and author/readers field).

Alan,
Very much agreed. It is truly amazing how fast it is to find an answer in the help and post it here as a response and sound like a genius! (not that I have ever done that;-) )
Subject: My goal is to educate…
Not just on what the answer is… but how to find it. There are so many good sources of info out there, but people don’t use then, than comment that Lotus does not communicate.
Some of the sources I consider important are:
each product’s web site
developerWorks Technical Library
this forum
the Lotus Support Knowledge Base
and yes… the Help files!
Subject: RE: My goal is to educate…
I think the key is the “to educate” part of your statement. Many times I will caveat a response I post with:
For people where it is clear they had made an honest effort to look someplace before posting (perhaps they were using the wrong terminology):
“If you had searched the help file for , you would have found the following example…”
or
“Search the help file” or if I am in a particularly bad mood (never happens to me:-) ) “RTFM”.
Subject: A follow-up thought…
I was thinking about a colleague who had built a Support Form submission application in Domino.
They would be prompted for their topic (both generally and specifically using Keywords), and before they would be presented with the form, they would be asked if the had searched their FAQ database or not. It would then return a search if they had not. This reduced their support ticket submissions by over 50%.
This type of functionality could easily be incorporated here. Use some cookies and a little creativity and this forum would become even more effective.
It would also be useful to add a “resolved” field to main topics. That way search results could be limited to only those topics that have been resolved, or those that are still open, etc. etc.
