Is it possible to distinguish a User from Role in Readers/Authors field other than parsing?

I guess what I am looking for is some kind of formula that takes the Readers field as the paramater and returns all Roles listed is the Readers field excluding named individuals and groups?

All the elements could be parsed to check for the “[” but wondered if there was any other way of doing this?
