Is DAV necessary?

Hi All,

Just wanted to know if DAV really necessary to setup if I want to use DB2 as my database storage. Our Lotus Notes databases are only use on Lotus Notes clients and we are not using WEB Applications.

My main purpose of using DB2 is to be able to use SQL queries to join nsf files (DB Query View) in a view which is not possible in Domino view alone.

Would it be possible to use DB Query view only or do I need to setup DB2 Access View as well? The thing is I do not have access to install DB2 Access Server as our names.nsf is administer by our coporate office.

Thank you very much for your advise.

Jess

Yes a DAV is necessary in your situation because the information in a DAV is redundant.Data in the NSF store is not available with SQL. The DAV mirrors this info. I suppose there are a number of stored procedures that send notifications to the Domino DB2 plugin at the Domino server, so that the Domino server can instruct the DB2 server to update also the information in the NSF-store.
