With the 3G iPhone now on the market and supporting Exchange, when can we expect 8.5 to go Gold with full iPhone support to include push of mail/calendar/contacts? Seems like IBM is behind in terms of technology and letting Windows beat them so to speak? There is high demand for a fully functional iPhone solution for Lotus Notes and I’m sure all of the iPhone community would like to know when we can expect this. Thanks.
Subject: The MS soluton is not fully functional either…
…due to deficiencies in the SDK.
Very few software vendors are writing with the SDK right now, because of this. Most are providing support for access via Safari, which will debut in DWA 8.0.2.
Please see this assessment of how the MS solution falls well short of the hype:

Subject: I always suported the position of Ed that MS does FUD against Notes; Let’s not do the same!
Subject: Not sure what you mean
I am pointing to a review by someone who makes a living on MS technology and he is not that impressed.
Subject: I agree with that, we have lots of customer requests for iphone Push Email, Calendar and contacts support with Lotus Notes.
Subject: I think IBM knows this…
IBM is providing a good web-based application to handle this. The next beta will be very slick. However, they do know that customers are wanting to have a push mail/pim sync application. I hope they get there - soon! Offline support should be the endgame here. It’s what enterprise-class mobile messaging is all about.
Someone mentioned that MS’s entry in this game has been flawed. That shouldn’t concern us that much - we should focus on what IBM can do to get there. And to get there with a better implementation than MS. Frankly, there are some web-based apps that I still somewhat prefer to the native apps that some vendors have released for the iPhone.
