IP Address of SMTP servers - How to Find

we have two SMTP servers. How can I find out their IP addresses. Are they mentioned somewhere ?

Can someone from external world (Internet)find out the addresses of my smtp server ?

Subject: mx lookup

Hello,

im using these commands:

nslookup -q=mx

example, to find hotmail.com’s mx servers try

:>nslookup -q=mx hotmail.com

But this give you only they inbound SMTP server addresses not outbound smtp servers which can be something else.

For your own benefit, if you are able to login to the OS on your server, you can find out the IP address of the box. This will be the IP of your SMTP. How to do this depends on the OS.

Externally, the IP has to be public in order for email to be delivered to your server. One place for a human to find out the IP of a server is mxtoolbox.com . There are many other similar tools.

Even logging onto the OS does not display public IP address. I checked mxtoolbox.com but could not find anything useful

Are there any other ways to find out ?

We can find this out by sending an email to gmail or yahoo account and then reading the header which displays the public ip address of smtp servers
