Hi all. I’m having problems with a particular view in a database. The access list of the view does not contain my name or the group which I’m part of. I need to modify this view to rectify the access list to include the development team. The view is not visible by even an administrator. The view does exist but isn’t available in the view list of Designer. Does anyone know of a way that I could access the view?
I assume it also doesn’t include a Role you can give yourself?
Then I think you;re out of luck.
The only suggestion I have is if someone has access to the view (can see it -but may not have designer rights), then they could make a local copy of the database. They can then grant you access to the local copy and also grant you access to the view on the local copy.
Then at least you could get a copy of the view. Not a 100% sure what would happen if you added that view to the production database then. I assume those with access to both views would see the two of them.
If Stephen’s clue is of any luck, then try design refresh your database with this local copy. (Change the template name in db properties of both so that local copy can be as template and actual db inherits design frm this template)
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I finally figured out what happened. The database in which I was working on modifications was copied off the production database by a colleague of mine. At the time he copied the database, he didn’t have access to the particular view thus not copying it at all. That’s why I couldn’t see it in Designer and also why the admin couldn’t see it as a full admin. In the end, I had the admin modify the production version to give access to the development group on the particular view, which allowed me to see it and then copy it into my development database.
That answered my riddle.
As for the template approach, that was one of my options. The only problem was that the database I was working on had a lot of time invested into modifications. Applying a template from the production version would’ve removed all of the modifications.
Thanks for all of your input! I hope my experience comes in handy for someone else in some point in time.
You are the man! You know more than everyone here about your environment. Congrats and by the way your posting would definitely help someone in near future who may have a similar problem.
