embedded view on form with inviewedit enabled. if user tries to enter more than 256 chars, user gets a beep, and is prevented from entering any more. is this correct? I can’t find this limitation documented anywhere.

It does appear to be that way… and I didn’t see the limit in the help file either.
You only work around may be to use a dialog box or prompt that will allow more text to be entered.
The In View Editing was probably designed for mostly entering smaller chunks of text more quickly than writing large entries that a form would be more suitable for.
