Internet Outbound Mail thought a relayed clustered server

Hi,

On my current infraestructure, I have setup a Domino Mail Server that does the SMTP task (MIME/CD conversion and routing trhought internet) for all the domain. I did it using SMTP Connection documents…

I have the necessity of implementing a new architecture, cluster aware, so if my smtp server goes down, I can use a clustered one. I thought to use 2 servers for SMTP, one for receiving mail, other only for sending… I would like that if server I have setup to do the sending of SMTP mails is down, to be able to use his pair…

How could I setup that architecture ? Wich architecture do you suggest for a domain of aprox. 10 Domino Servers, having 1 for sending mails to internet and other for receiving, but habving everything “fault tolerance” ?

thks

Hi Silvia,I would do it by giving dns mx records for both smtp gateways in you local domain for outgoing mails (as it is probably for external done) and then by setting the relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain in configuration documents to this record. Don’t forget to switch the host name lookup to dynamic.
