Internet certificate - unable to delete

I have a new internet certificate which I have imported into my notes id via User Security. I then changed that new certificate to be my default certificate. I then deleted the “old” expired certificate and received a message box indicating that it has been deleted. As expected it does not appear in the internet certificate view.HOWEVER…

When I reopen my Notes client the deleted certificate reappears in the internet certificate view and is marked as the default, and as such I receive and error indicating that my default certificate is expired when signing a message.

Has anyone experienced this same phenomenon? solutions? suggestions?

I am using the Lotus Notes 6.0.1 CF1 on Windows XP.

The issue likely is that the directory has the old internet certificate set as a default, and an automatic download is occuring from the directory to your id file when you authenticate. If you edit your directory Person record, click the button “Examine Internet Certificates”, a dialog box comes up that allows to you set your default to something else.

hope this helps!
