Internet Certificate Error

I have a user that is getting the following error message. We have been unable to find any explanation for it. I hope someone here may be able to identify what it could be.

“You have attempted to sign this internet message, but your current id does not contain or does not specify an internet certificate for signing. Select OK to send the message anyway. Select cancel to not send the message.”

This happens whether the user is sending to internal or external addresses. The message does go through if OK is selected but we would like to get rid of the error completely. Thank you.

Subject: no internet cert for signing

This error is a result of the user attempting to “sign” a message bound for the internet. This would require an Internet Certificate (X.509). This error will be seen if attempting to sign the message without such a certificate.

The following t/n also states an “S/Mime” setting in the location document as well.

Title: Error: ‘…your current ID does not contain an internet certificate’ when attempting to sign a message
