International ID's created with 6.0.1 cannot be used with older clients

We have a mixed environment with servers and clients from 4.6.7 to 5.0.11. We have just started to prepare a migration to 6.0.1. However this can’t be done all at once and for application specific reasons we need to keep some clients at 4.6.7 for a while.

All clients or servers older then 5.0.4 have International security. Starting with Notes 5.0.4 and the introduction of the Global security model all new User and Server ID’s have been created with Security type International using the Notes 5 Admin client with the latest available version.

Last week I created some new users using the Admin client of Notes 6.0.1. One of the users needs access to a Notes 4.6.7 client.

What happens now is that this user cannot use the new ID on a 4.6.7 Client. He gets the error “The specified ID File may only be used inside North America”.

First I thought I made a mistake and recreated the ID. But the same happened again. Because I haven’t created new ID’s for 4.6 users for a long time I thought it could be an issue with the Global security model.

I tried to recreate the ID using the same certifier and server using my Notes 5.0.11 Admin client. The created user-id was of same size, but this time it can be used with a 4.6.7 Client.

I didn’t try, but I assume that the User ID created with the Notes 6.0.1 Admin client cannot be used on any client prior to Notes 5.0.4.
