Intermittent password prompt in Notes

I have a user who is set up with Single logon and when she logs onto the network and then opens Notes, everything is fine. However, intermittently she is prompted for her Notes password. If she cancels, she can continue to work, access server databases, etc. It’s not a third-party issue, that configuration setting is correct. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason for when it prompts. Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: F5 or “Log out if you haven’t used for x minutes”

I didn’t think this still worked in R8, but used to be you could hit F5 to lock your screen. Does that cause it?

Also, there is a setting (File>Preferences>User Preferences, Basics) for Log out if you haven’t used Notes for x minutes". Either deselect this, set it to an appropriately long time, or train the user that this is supposed to happen after x minutes.

Subject: It’s actually happening while the user is working…

It’ll just pop up, she can cancel (because her Notes password doesn’t work!) and continue to work which I have not seen before.

Subject: …

Does she have sametime? Is she replicating with more than one server?

It could be a prompt from another server.

Subject: No, she is not replicating with another server

and she is not getting a sametime login screen, just a notes password prompt and she can cancel and continue to access the server.

Subject: what else is running?

Check to see what else is running. Notes used to defaultly install a program called “notes minder” that would give you a new mail popup even if notes wasn’t running. If I recall correctly, there was a login option that would either prompt you or stay logged in.

It could be something like that, even if it isn’t notes minder itself, so check and see what else is running and kill other programs one-by-one until the problem goes away.
