Insufficient memory. Too many fields in the database. Edit fields pool is full

Problem

I have a database that contains fields that store Keywords. This list is built via a formula that does a lookup on a view and retrieves the document name, document ID and a description. I want these three values to be stored in the field but only the description to show up in the list of keywords. When the customer selects one of these keywords the following error message occurs:

“Insufficient memory. Too many fields in the database. Edit fields pool is full.”

Several thing I would like to know:

  1. What is causing the error message to appear?

  2. What possible solutions can be done?

Please take note that the database has already been compacted.
