I’ve got a user running OS/X Tiger (10.4.11 specifically) on a fairly new MBPro (2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM). I need to get 7.0.2 installed on it and all i get is a vague “Cannot install on this Mac”.
I’ve seen comments about problems with Leopard, that the Kernal leve doesn’t match what is hard-coded in the script, but that does not seem to be the issue here. If I comment the sysctl check out of the install script, it still fails.
I have successfully installed both 7.0.2 and 7.0.3 on 10.4.x with no issues.
You will want to first make sure there is no previous version of Notes on the Mac as the older versions just used a stuffit file that the user dragged to the applications folder and everything was stored there, even the user’s data. The installer for 7 is different. The user’s data is stored in their profile on the Mac and the application files are stored in Applications.
Remove any and all previous versions of Notes from the system, then run the v7 installer while logged in with an admin level account. Accept the defaults for the installer… Then you should be able to log in as the user and setup Notes normally.
