Hi!
I go the message “You cannot use the administration program while the domino server is running. Either shut down the domino server(but keep the file server running) or choose the icon labeled ‘lotus notes’ instead” when launching Lotus notes client. This message happened on 5/40 of my clients’ pc. It happens on w2k pro and xp. Any idea?

What exactly are you trying to install? Your post is somewhat vague in what you are trying to accomplish.
Make sure Domino and/or Notes is shutdown before trying to upgrade/install a newer version. Also, any program which interacts may cause issues (ie EasySynch)
Also, you may have a service running if this is a Wintel server. Check your services.

Hi! I’m installing a fresh copy of Lotus Notes client 6.5.3 on XP and W2k Pro machine. What services should i check? sorry, what’s easyshnch?

Notes won’t have any services. Only Domino. EasySynch is a desktop software which synchs mail, cal, todo/tasks with your pda. EasySynch is only one option there are others available.
Are you a member of the local admin account for the machine? Unfortunately, Notes still requires to write files into the winnt\system32 directory and user or power user is not sufficient (which is why Smart Upgrade doesn’t work for most…just an fyi).
If you’re logging into a Domain, I’d suggest logging in local and try that. If it works, you do not have rights in the domain to install software.

Hi!
I’ve installed the Notes client using domain administrator account and lauching notes client using administrator logon as well.
Do i have to logon as a local administrator to install the Notes client? Is that a better option?
Another problem which happened quite frequently is that, the notes hang and the thunderbolt in the left hand corner of the notes windows was blinking and hung there.
Without knowing the reason, i’ve to delete some of the notes file in the hidden files of aaplication>>>local settings which is the user logon profile and reinstall the software for it to get to normal. any idea? Thks!
