Installable Applets - do they work?

Has anyone noticed the option in the Discussion (might be TeamRoom) template which is to locally install the applets. I assume this means the view, action bar and rich tech applets as these are all used in this template.

The concept is that the applet would be stored locally so that dialup internet users (like me) would not have to wait so long every single time you accessed a resource which utilized one of these applets (of course the first time would take a little while to install the applet …).

I have seen no difference in the amount of time required to open a rich text applet. Does this work? I am using IE 6.02 on WinXP - are there minimum system requirements higher than I have?

------ I just went back to the template to verify which one and I can’t find them !!! I had copied the actions/pages to another database for use there (never gotit to work), so I know I wasn’t dreaming. Maybe the Installable Applets were removed from the template in 6.01???

Does anyone know the answer?

If you are using IE: Have a look at the folder "C:/WINNT/Dowloaded Program Files"Be also sure not to have the Sun plugin handling your Applets!

In this folder there are all installable Applets listed. To install an Applet you must be logged on (in WinXX) with a user that has write access to this folder. I have also seen installations where this folder was write protected, what also prevented the download of installable applets.

I don’t know if this would also work for other browsers or with the Sun plugin enabled to handle applet tags.

Hope that helps.
