Hello,I wish to install an R6 test server and monitor/administer thru R5 production environment. Is this ok? What is the best method for installation? Is it ok to access via my desktop Admin client? can I access the R5 directory for mail testing etc? I have searched the R5 & R6 forums but cannot find much info. Appreciate your assistance.

Yes, It’s better to install on a complelety separate enviornment. As far as taking information from an existing R5 install and using it to practice with, I suggest taking a copy of the entire Lotus or data directory and moving it to the test machine. When I did my testing I restored a backup tape from my production server to the test box. Then I was able to see exactly how an upgrade would go down. Course you might not have the ability to do such a thing… if you can get a copy of the DNAB then at least all of the settings will be there from your existing R5 enviornment.

If you have to install in the production enviroment yould should disable replicating design elements for the R6 server so the design changes to the NAB do not replicate to your R5 servers. It would be better to install ina test environment but I knwo that always can’t be done.

Thanks James - if it is better/safer to install as standalone that’s fine - I just wanted to test the new features before we actually upgrade to R6. Perhaps that might be the better route to avoid screwing up mail routing …can I import the directory from R5?
