Install procedure 8.5 on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid?

I have downloaded the IBM Lotus Notes 8.5 for Linux (Debian Install) English (C1W0TEN) package to install on Ubuntu. I unpack to get the different DEB files and launch the one for the Notes client. The first warning I get is that I try to install an AMD64 package on a 32-bit system (it is the only Linux DEB package available for download !). Googling I find that you can force through a --force-architecture command. OK, it installs, no message whatsoever. But then ???

I’ve read on the internet to launch /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/notes. Nothing happens. No program icon available either. What am I doing wrong? My Ubuntu is up to date for the rest. Even in the 8.5 administrator help IBM doesn’t provide a step-by-step install procedure. This won’t help users switch easily to a Linux box I’m afraid…

Anyone got it installed successfully? Thanks for any help!

Subject: There is an issue with the LAP window

The License Agreement window doesn’t show up as it should. I found this workaround:

Go to folder:

/opt/ibm/lotus/notes/framework/rcp

Issue this command:

sudo gedit rcplauncher.properties

Put colon ( in front of the 5 last lines, it will look like this:

:config.initial.1=-application

:config.initial.2=com.ibm.rcp.lapinvoker.LapInvokerApplication

:config.initial.3=-initialCompleteFlag

:config.initial.4=config.initial.complete

:config.initial.5=-noSplash

Now the application starts and runs the Client Configuration Wizard. But after that it seems to crash. You have to delete the folder

/home//lotus/notes/data/workspace

and start it again!

Good luck!

Subject: I am installing on a 32-bit system

I’m installing the Linux package on an Intrepid 32-bit system.

Subject: I’ve installed, but

it doesn’t work correctlyI’ve installed as 32bit (with libs) within 64bit, and as separate 32bit chroot environment

for both variants I have trouble with workspace icons displaying

But 32bit chroot for hardy (Intrepid 64bit as main system), it does work as usual

…we’ve received some reports of functionality differences between Ubuntu 8.0.4 (8.5 supported platform) and Ubuntu 8.1.0 (not yet supported platform), but also that some folks are working ok. Dev team is investigating.

…confirms that there are some issues running on Ubuntu 8.1 and 64 bit environments. The team was focused on the supported configuration - Ubuntu 8.0.4 in 32 bit environments, so has not spent significant time looking at the specifics.
