Install on Citrix

We have been trying to install Notes 8.5 Standard on our Citrix Farm. Thus far I am able to run Basic the same old way that most do whereas Program Files on the Citrix server and User data in the users home folder (File Server. (Not supported I know but we have ran this way for years!) This has worked since the day of R5…most will agree. I can get Notes 8.5 basic to work the same way but not Standard…in most cases standard fires up at first attempt on First CTX Box…then if I flip over to second CTX Server with same account…it takes a while to configure…only get the spalsh screen and nothing more.

My Second attempt involves configuring Notes 8.5 Standard however following IBM’s recommendation tod o a single user install and the users Home folder must be on the local CTX Server. Ok I did that and it does work like a champ for Single user install…however we have several Ctrix servers and If we have the users home folder reside locally on each one?? how does one sync the contacts, bookmarks etc between the 2 servers. Roaming apparently is not supported in a Citrix/TS environment!

Am I missing something? any suggestions? Anyone with experience with 8.5 Std and Citrix Farm?

Subject: Citrix - SharedClass cache - jvm may want to implement this?

You may have already done this (I think its the same for 8.5 client), but we intend to install our 802 notes clients on citrix using these recommendations:

from … IBM Developer

Appendix E (page 34): Lotus Notes optimization

When running your Lotus Notes Standard client in a XenApp environment, it is recommended to enable the following optimization:

• The Lotus Notes Sharedclass cache for Citrix XenApp running Lotus Notes 8.0.2.

The Lotus Notes Sharedclass cache for Citrix allows the multiple Lotus Notes users on a Citrix server to share some of the Java™ classes, ensuring that each Lotus Notes instance does not load its own copy of the class files. This in turn allows you to reduce memory usage for each Lotus Notes user.

To enable this setting, complete the following steps:

  1. Find the jvm.properties file in the following directory:

In Windows:

<install_dir>\framework\rcp\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.rcp.j2se.win32.x86_1.6.0.20080416-200806200100

  1. Find the following string and remove the singleJVM item:

vmarg.Dshare=

-Xshareclasses:name=xpdplat,controlDir=${prop.jvm.shareclasses.loc},groupAccess,keep,

,nonfatal

  1. Find and change the following line from:

jvm.shareclasses.loc=${env.TEMP}/xpdplat

to:

jvm.shareclasses.loc=c:/temp/xpdplat

  1. Add the following to the file:

vmarg.Xnolinenumbers=-Xnolinenumbers

  1. Save the file.

Subject: 8.5 STd install on CITRIX

I have not specifically applied the shared cache option at this point, and I did see that the users home folder is very large so yes a lot of data to copy down from a file server…no longer feasable to have Program files on Local Citrix and Data in Users Home folder on File Server. As mentioned I tested standard with Program and Users Home Folder on Local Citrix Server and it loads as per ther IBM recommendation for installation (single user install). But if roaming is not supported, then what if you have 3,4 or more Ctitrix Servers…what do you do to sync there Bookmarks, names desktop ETC between the Citrix servers. I’m a bit confused!

Subject: Any resolution?

Did you ever get an answer or a configuration to work? I am faced with the same situation.

Subject: Workspace directory has a 64MB file in it (8.5x only, not 8.0.2)

Be aware if you are copying data to and from your servers that when the Workspace directory is created when using the standard client, there is a 64MB jvm file - C240D2A32P_xpdplat_.jvm_G04 in notes\data\workspace.config\org.eclipse.osgi. This coupled with the other necessary notes files in a data directory make it at least around 75 - 80MB which needs to be copied around. There is an internal PMR with IBM about the jvm file

Subject: Re: Install on Citrix

Oh b@gger - we’re about to do this exact thing but with notes 802 client instead. If we get the same issue(s) that’ll be a bitof a show stopper for our Citrix Notes users (a third of the company use it daily = 400ppl).We also have been using citrix servers with a home directory on a file server for at least 10 years, and without too many issues. We also are looking for a way to copy and syncronise the users data on the home file server and all Citrix (9 of them eventually) servers in our XenApp server farm
