I am a junior administrator in Lotus Domino. In the company there is an entry for every employee of the company in the Domino Directory. Yesterday an employee asked me to install in his machine the Lotus Notes 6.5.4.
During the location setup when I was prompted I just entered employee’s name, the Home server name and the proxy settings. (No user.id was resided in user’s PC).
After the setup I run Client and the user could have access to his mail and in Domino server in general.
Why the user had access although he didn’t have the user.id file in his machine?
By default Notes 6+ will use the name you enter and check the Domino Diretory on the server you specify and look for a user.id file attached to the person document.
Personally I don’t store user ID’s in the Domino Directory, and I have a policy set that forces users to change their passwords on first use. I also use ID recovery to make sure I have an encrypted backup copy of everyone’s ID files.
