iNotes slow when creating new message or reply existing message in IE

Hi all, recently we noticed a part of iNotes user were running iNotes very slowly on IE7/IE8 but quickly on Firefox.

Login iNotes and open existing message are quick but very slow to creating new message or reply message which need more than 2mins.

After checking iNotes console, I found specified elements’ long loading time were the reason but don’t know why.

Wondering:

What those log entries (and the whole log entries in between) were like for the user who took 2 minutes to load reply form

What happens if “Lotus iNotes ActiveX file attachment utility” in iNotes tab in server config doc is turned off

Also - Let me mention that 8.5.2 release has got substantial performance improvement on new memo and reply areas, especially where long distance network or wireless network is in use.

Subject: Tried but not helpful.

Thanks Arira and sorry for replying later as just had the public holiday here.

I tried to disabled “Lotus iNotes ActiveX file attachment utility” as suggested and reload the HTTP task but not helpful.

Here is the console log from another user who also create/reply the message in iNotes slowly.

I listed several sections which can see obvious time delay:

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for being late on this. The latest log you provided indicates that it took 27 seconds for reply form to come up. Wondering if it’s true, and if it’s significantly slower than Firefox running on the same machine. Taking HTTP request/response trace by IBM Page Detailer, Fiddler, etc. would help more diagnosis.

We’re currently running Domino 8.5.1 FP3 with iNotes hotfix 304.5aCHF5 and have a similar problem with slowness and when users go to send an email with spell check enabled it seems to take 20 seconds to do anything but with it disabled it will send the email straight away. We have also noticed that browsing email folders is painfully slow with inotes…

I’ve been talking to IBM about the slowness of iNotes for a few weeks now and have an ongoing open case (PMR 91491 019 866) if you wish to refer them to it at all.

The debug parameters that they have asked me to put into our notes.ini on the server is as followis:

DEBUG_CAPTURE_TIMEOUT=1 DEBUG_SHOW_TIMEOUT=1

DEBUG_SEM_TIMEOUT=30000 Debug_ThreadID=1

What parameters/how did you get the inotes console log?

Subject: iNotes console

Hi Chris,

You can go to iNotes console by Ctrl-Click (Command-Click for Mac platform) on IBM Lotus iNotes logo, or on iNotes’ status bar. Hitting Detail in the console shows some details that provide some hints as to what iNotes does under the hood, and copy of that info helps support team diagnose the problem. (Note: It may have some personal info)

You’ll see something like below in detail mode of iNotes console. The first line indicates Domino version. The second line indicates the version of iNotes forms template (Forms85.nsf, etc.). The third line indicates the browser in use. “Config info” section indicates the settings applied to user.
