This is no doubt an R5 issue as well, but I figure to post here since it is definitely an issue with R6.
I have users who are using Domino Web access (iNotes), and they all have server based archives of mail over a year old. I’m at a loss to understand why no link to their archive database exists in the Domino Web Access User Interface. To link to archives, I have to give users a separate URL to their archive, and that is both tedious and prone to the dreaded user error.
Better yet, a simple link (like in the Notes client) to link to (and open) the archive… and maybe even a link in an archive to get back to the main mail file.
This has really got me too. I’m holding off the implementation of Archiving based on not having a link from the iNotes client to the archive database. If someone could shed some light on this or even say when an iNotes client with link to the Archive Database will be out I would be very appreciative. Currently the version of iNotes that we are using is iNotes6.ntf
I had the same problem when I was running version 6.03 and with the help of lotus support we found out the option to open archive will display itself when you upgrade to r6.51.
The problem with the iNotes Archive link in 6.5.1 is that it ASSUMES that archives are on the same server as the mail that is open.
I’m not sure where anyone ever got the idea that archiving to the same server actually adds value. The goal of archiving is to move data to secondary storage, and that “normally” means another server.
Try with a directory link on the server to map another disk. For example you can link a mass storage and create a directory link in the domino data directory.
A directory link is certainly one way to handle this, but it is rather cumbersome, considering that the fat client allows users to specify a server in their Archive Settings. That forces me to give up functionality to accommodate iNotes.
