iNotes adressing problem

I have number of users in NAB which are not notes users, they are specified as “other Internet Mail” users and have forwarding address specified. When I send email from Notes client regardless I click TO and select user from NAB or type last name and hit enter, in both ways all works fine, problem is with addressing from iNotes, here is how it works:

in iNotes:

I type in lastname in the to field. as I type there is green icon next to “TO” icon so I click it and iNotes finds the person, replaces their name with their full name from the NAB and sends it. The recipient gets the email and sees “firstname_lastname.notesdomanin@domain.com” instead of their internet address in the to field, now if I put multiple external email addresses and one of this person reply to all his email goes nowhere except my email because he/she is replying to firstname_lastname.notesdomanin@domain.com for rest of the rcipients since this email format is invalid

second scenario, still iNotes using “TO” field link to pick names from address lookup:

I choose the persons name.

Notes finds the person, replaces their name with their internet email address and sends it. The recipient gets the email and sees “firstname@someaddress.com” i.e. their internet address in the to field. This works fine

here is the trick, as far as I remember it worked fine in R5 (or no one report it since we did not use iNotes in R5 too much)

… I can make it work if in person document in NAB I leave their First Name and Last Name, forwarding email address and in field User Name I need to replace their FN LN with their email address, as soon I put their FN LN in user name field receipient changed to firstnam_lastname.notesdomain@internetdomain.com … otherword in iNotes when you click “green check mark” left of TO Notes is looking up User Name field in person doc and hide following format of email firstnam_lastname.notesdomain@internetdomain.com

any idea why?

Hi,

I am not sure to understand your problem but when you have an address like firstname_lastname.notesdomanin@domain.com, it’s because Domino doesn’t find a valid internet address and create a new brand one with the global domain document setting/Conversions, in this tab you can remove the notes domain name and modify the format of the name. To use theses settings, you need to reboot your domino server

Hope this helps

I’m not sure that I fully understand the solution that you are suggesting to your problem here, (I am having the same problem with addressing from iNotes), but I replaced the contents of the UserName field (in the secondary address book using da) with the email address and iNotes was able to send mail through using iNotes alright, however a Lotus Notes user has since complained that they’ve had delivery failures to that address.

Having looked through this forum about this it seems that this problem has come up quite a lot. Does anyone have a sure working solution?

Thanks
