Inotes Access to Mail Replicas

I have setup Inotes and the users access a replica of thier mail boxes. When you use the notes client to access the replicas the unread marks are working fine. However when you use the browser, the read mail comes back as being unread. Does anyone know how to get around this? Thanks in advance.

This is normal behaviour. By default unread marks don’t replicate between servers. However, assuming you are using 6.5, you can set unread marks to replicate by going into the advanced properties tab of the mail file and make the necessary change.If you have many mail files to change you can go to the files tab in the Domino Administrator and select multiple mail files and make the change by right clicking and selecting ‘advanced properties’.

Thanks for the help. It seems to work with clients that are at version 6.5 client but not with clients that have 6.02 client. All the servers are at 6.5. I guess i will have to upgrade the clients. Thanks again.

Marlon, The client version shouldn’t matter. It will only matter when a Local replica is involved. Here is what I would do to narrow down the problem:

  • Make sure that Unread Mark replication is set (Database/Properties) to “All Servers”

  • Make sure that Do Not Mark Modified Documents as Unread is Enabled (Database/Properties)

  • Make sure that the first name in your Person document is the exact same case (for every letter) as your Notes ID (compare the name displayed when you do File/Security/User Security from your client). I suspect that this is the problem. Change the case of the first name in your person document to reflect what is displayed from your notes client User Security screen. If they are different cases, then the unread marks function will think that they are different users (for example, when accessing from Inotes the user might be bill spencer/westford/ibm, while from Notes the user would be Bill Spencer/Westford/IBM). To the unread marks, these will be represented as 2 different users - each with their own unread information.

  • If you are using a third party authentication service for Inotes, make sure that the user’s record contains the exact case (cn, ou, and o should be listed in the user record as CN, OU, O, and the name must be the exact same case as the Notes user).
